Encouragement: Slapping Jams on Faces!

I am the kind of friend who will slap a jam on your face that melts you. To slap a jam means suggesting a song that will surely inspire you. I suggest activities like listening to music and dancing to encourage others because these activities work for me. They may work for you, too. Here are five ways that reignite my soul when I need a boost.

Change the Light

It’s campfire TV time. Light a small, unscented candle and gaze at the flame for ten minutes. Focusing on the flame's movement brings a sense of calm and comfort. Let the dancing flame bring back memories of happy moments, like roasting marshmallows over a campfire.

Sing it Out

Song Recommendation: Proud by Heather Small

Find it, play it, and sing along to it. The song speaks for itself. *Slap!

Pour it Out

Pull out your journal, and for ten minutes, write down what you are grateful for.  Here are some great starter questions:  What blessings am I thankful for today? Have I thanked God for all the good in my life today? Have I asked Him for His guidance today? When you remember that you are already blessed, you can handle anything.

Scripture Recommendation: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

Quiet the Mind

Organize or handle something. Just one task that is low on the list of things to do. Putting away the clean laundry that has been sitting in the basket for three days kind of task. It's always the everyday stuff in our lives that reminds us how blessed we already are, and that's encouraging. I mean, I have clean clothes—that is awesome!!!

Dance it Out

Song Recommendation: Shackles by Mary Mary

Dance like a ballerina, solid gold dancer, or break dancer—just be careful. If you can’t get up, chair dancing is acceptable!! A ten-minute change in physical movement helps get the creative juices going and solutions flowing and brings a sense of joy and energy that can uplift your spirits.

Most importantly, take a break already honey, because we all need rest from the lists and tasks of life. Remember, it’s okay to take a step back and recharge. You deserve it.
