Let’s Talk About Adventure!

Before the pandemic, we were great adventurers, so when the world started opening back up, we were ready to get back out there, safely. After we got our pup Ralph, however, traveling seemed like something we would have to give up. We were just not willing to leave Ralph behind while we went on adventures. Just thinking about it broke my heart.

Cut to us considering a cabin somewhere for summers. You know, a summer home. It’s a fairly expensive solution and well, Summer home = one destination = BORING! Okay, it actually depends on the place, but that is not quite the adventure we had in mind.

Our goal was adventure, cooler weather, pup friendly and we wanted our own creature comforts. I don’t think we were asking for too much…were we? Haha.

Renting a dog friendly Air BNB or Bed & Breakfast was not very ideal. The destinations we were considering had limited options and it seemed everything was completely booked. Also, the idea of flying with our pup was just out of the question. After much debate and research, we discovered the world of RV Camping. Okay to be fair, my husband always knew about this lifestyle. He just wasn’t sure I was up for it. I didn’t do much camping as a kid or young adult. My first thought when it comes to camping is…eww, bugs and I never even considered RV’ing (its a word now). I had lots questions and thankfully my hubs had a lot of the answers. Ultimately we realized that RV’ing fit our travel needs.

Enter, Bertha! I name everything so of course our RV got a name. I never thought I would love it so much. We initially wanted an airstream but it didn’t work out due to supply issues.  It wasn’t meant for us and I am glad God sent us Bertie. Bertie is a 5th Wheel Trailer that we hitch up to our Ram truck. Having all the comforts of home and plenty of space, Bertie is a blessing.

Thank you God for our cabin on wheels!

Being newbies to this type of travel adds a whole layer of adventure. Traveling in an RV is all about no complaining or whining. Its about going with the flow and figuring stuff out with each new campsite. It is a great practice of patience, with each other, everything and everyone else. This is only our second season with Bertie and we have already experienced so much.

I truly enjoy our RV Lifestyle.

Traveling in Bertie has really brought us closer together. We are sharing chores and realizing more and more that everything is better with a buddy. We don’t just blast music or listen to books on our drives to new campsites. Instead, we talk and connect through richer and more fulfilling conversations.

Along with the whole hitching and unhitching process and getting settled, we have to consider our laundry needs, meal times, work and Wi-Fi. With each new stop, we are getting better at this portion of travel. Practice makes perfect!!

Ralph is enjoying the exploration of new places, nature, the taste of roasted marshmallows and meeting some of the nicest people just as much as we are. He is also becoming a sleep-with-us pup. At home, Ralph is happy to sleep in his bed, with no issues. This is an adjustment for all of us. Having him near us at night is a lovely ending to a fun day of adventure for all of us.

Ralph enjoying a roasted marshmallow. YUM!!

When I think about where our travel life started and where we are now, it is pretty mind boggling. If you have never done RV camping, I highly recommend it and if you happen to be an experienced RV’er, then you know just how wonderful this lifestyle is!

I love that I am learning all the time and I am excited to learn more with each summer. It’s a whole new world of adventure and we are loving it!!
